The Lamp

Title: The Lamp

Author’s note: A promise finally fulfilled :) I’d say this is more a short story than a snippet, but we can call that an extra for it being so late. So for Hedeia :)

**************

A bird landed on the railing and Kate tossed it some crumbs from her bagel. It was so warm today, the cold seemed to have finally left for its own holiday in the arctic where it belonged. Someone in the door made her turn her head slightly.

“Hi, sexy, what’s cooking?” Jill’s exuberant voice range through the apartment they shared.

“Me, I’m cooking! Man, I’m so hot!”

“Yeah don’t I know it…?” Jill gave her a slow once over starting at her bare feet and following her slender jean clad legs up to the curve of her backside and hips and over the short sleeved blue shirt tied below her chest exposing skin around her mid section. “Mm, you look good in spring clothes.”

Kate’s eyes fell on the bags her girlfriend was carrying – she hadn’t!!

“Quit it! And tell me those are grocery bags!!”

Jill’s eyes grew and she grinned sheepishly. Then turned and hurried into the bedroom. Kate smacked her forehead and groaned. That girl was so dead! She followed her and stopped in the doorway staring at the tantalisingly wiggling bottom of a woman bent over a desk.

“There!” Jill made a content sound when she resurfaced turning a horrible orange lamp around on the desk. “This is so neat, baby, come here look at this! It’s so cool you can light it just by…”

“I’m not looking at any stupid lamp! What else did you get!?”

“Um… just some clothes… I needed clothes I have NO spring clothes since you raided my closet! And this really cool game I’ve waited for forever!! Yeah and just a CD – it’s Linkin Park.”

Kate glared at the multitude of bags on the bed and then at her girlfriend.

“Er, and er… stuff… I bought you a new hat, it’s so cool!” Jill trailed off as she realised the word cool was not even close to what Kate was at present.

“You promised me! No more shopping sprees!! You can’t go out just spending money you don’t really have!!”

“Oh, come on! I have money!” Jill rolled her eyes.

“But not for TOYS!!”

“I got clothes!”

“You HAVE clothes!”

“Not SPRING clothes!!”

Kate wasn’t in the mood for arguing about semantics and she was certainly not in the mood to let the ‘shoppoholic’ she’d happened to fall for stand there and tell her buying an ugly orange lamp was one of the ‘necessary acquirements’ they had said would be allowed.

She found receipts for everything except some shoes and a really cute sweater that was probably second hand. She did indeed find a hat, a purple hat with a huge pink flower. She shook her hat at the abundance of nonessential stuff Jill had managed to pick up in the single afternoon she’d been out.

“You’ll return everything with a receipt in here! My god! You got Sims Vacation!?” Kate gritted her teeth. There was no way she’d be able to make Jill return this – not when she wanted nothing herself but to go install it straight away.

She sighed and looked at Jill who now had a repentant but hopeful look on her face. This was so unfair! Kate glared at her, consequent! She had to be consequent, or it’d all fall down like a card house.

“Everything with a receipt!” she sated slowly and clearly, some definite anger in her voice now. “You thought you could bribe me out of spanking you, didn’t you? Well it won’t be that easy – and you will return this!” she gestured with the game and Jill whimpered in abject despair. “No! We could have bought this together – now you’ll just have to wait! We both have to wait!”

Jill chewed her lip and seemed on the verge of tears. They weren’t fake, they were never fake with Jill, they just came very easily with her.

“Take your jeans off and move those bags! I’m getting Eric’s belt!”

It was very clear Jill was extremely upset because she didn’t even complain when Kate passed the verdict, she just swallowed hard and blinked, dark hair falling across her face as she unbuttoned her jeans.

Kate went out in the kitchen and fetched the thick brown belt, lacking buckle, that had used to belong to their neighbour Eric, a thirty something guy who’s cat they used to watch. He’d given it to them for said cat to play with once.

Jill was bent over the foot of the bed, her round, pert buttocks sticking out like peaches just begging to be tasted. Kate drew a deep breath, forcing herself not to succumb to temptation and raised the belt over her shoulder. Jill trembled and sobbed into the bedspread.

“You know why we’re doing this, don’t you?” a faint nod against the fabric and a clench of the waiting cheeks. “And you’ve deserved it, haven’t you?” another nod.

Kate whipped the belt down and the distinct sound of leather against flesh resounded in the room and there seemed to be a flash of light. Again the belt fell leaving a red welt on creamy skin and the thwack almost frighteningly loud followed by distraught whimpers from Jill.

The third lash clashed down and Kate was certain the light in the room changed, something had to be wrong with the electricity in here – damn it, she’d have to call the landlord.

After another three sharp blows with the belt there was a subtle change in Jill’s muffled sobs, she seemed to be franticly trying to suppress the sound and it almost sounded as if she was choking. Kate bent down quickly, alarmed at the distress she noticed.

“It’s okay baby, you’ll be all right, I love you!” she kissed the top of her head whispering soothingly “S’okay sweetheart. Shush baby, it’s okay!” and then took the tearstained face in her hands and stroke her hair in a comforting movement.

Jill was grinning like a madman, trying to stifle her giggles. Kate realised she was imitating a stranded fish and closed her mouth, looking bewildered and suspicious and the laughing brat on the bed.

“What is it?” she asked dumbfounded, not being able to find anything the least bit amusing in the situation. Jill wiped her face, still fighting the bubbling laughter.

“The, the lamp…” she gasped and the laughter overcame her. “It’s, it’s… oh god…” she laughed harder and climbed up on her elbows stroking the tears away. She looked at Kate and clapped her hands once, hard. Kate considered having her committed.

“Sweetie…?”

“Look, the lamp…” she clapped again and Kate looked at the horrendous orange thing with much scepticism. The lamp lit, another clap and it turned off – slowly light dawned for Kate as well and she looked at Jill, who was bursting with laughter. “Every time you… you…” they both fell face down on the bed howling with laughter.

“That lamp will have to go!!” Kate finally panted.

“Can’t we keep the game? Please? I won’t buy anything but food and toilet paper for the rest of the month! I’ll even return the spring clothes…” Jill pleaded and then her voice turned suspiciously seductive. “We can build that love hotel we talked about…” Kate got a dreamy look, but then sat up quickly smacking the still naked bottom beside her with a laugh.

“But everything else goes back!!”

“Yes!!”

It’s the lamp’s fault I’m such a lousy top, Kate said as she went to put the belt back in it’s place. Damned lamp! She couldn’t help but smile.

The End
